This sad robot shutting down is a warning sign to early adopters

Purchasing fresh equipment is enjoyable. In particular, early adopters enjoy getting the newest and biggest tech. But with such high turnover in the sector, leading to the bust and disappearance of many tech products from life, we should perhaps believe twice before investing in newborn gadgets.

Introduction: Jibo. After three years of crowdfunding and release delays, this cutesy, internet-connected home robot published in November 2017. Device reviews decided it was a vibrant little robot capable of performing fundamental assistant tasks. However, although it could integrate with IFTTT, it couldn’t do nearly as much as Google or Amazon’s smart home assistants. And it cost a lot more.
